Happy Halloween Everyone

Happy Halloween! And what a start to this holiday weekend! We’ve got SNOW in our forecast!! Not expecting any accumulation though! It’s the perfect time to come curl up with some hot chocolate next to the fireplace in one of our cabins! That sounds like a perfect weekend to me! We’ve still got quite a bit of color on the trees to see also, so bundle up and take one of our many breathtaking hikes in the area while you’re here!

We took a new cabin on board here at Five Star! It’s a beautiful little cabin for two called Beary Cozy! We don’t have pictures up just yet but it’s fully equipped with everything you’d want in a cabin! Also, the location couldn’t be better! There are 3 chalets, Beary Nice, Beary Secluded and Beary Cozy (new one) that are within walking distance of each other. They’re perfect for families or a small cluster of families. Red River Mountain is located directly across the road from Route 77 (Nada Tunnel/Red River Gorge), which is one entrance to the Red River Gorge, so you’re close to hiking and all that the Gorge offers!

If you couldn’t make it down to see the fall colors, don’t be sad! The winter time is just as great of a time to visit Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge! The leaves are gone and you can see the majestic cliff lines! We offer cabins with breathtaking views to show off those cliff lines also!

Don’t forget to stop by our Wild Things! Of KY gift shop! It stays open year around and offers some of the most unique and perfect stocking stuffers for everyone on your list! They offer everything from local honey (in gorgeous fancy jars, 8 and 16 ounces) to hand made woven baskets to take home gem mine bags! They have a little bit of everything, so be sure to stop by and see them!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween Holiday!

Busy Weekend at The Red River Gorge

It's been a very busy weekend for us so far here at the Natural Bridge State Park & Red River Gorge. We booked completely for Friday & Saturday! Our guests have been so excited to explore the area & also enjoy their cabins. This weekend is a good time to turn on the cozy fireplaces, build a fire outside in the fire pit, or soak in the hot tub during the chilly evening. They are definitely taking full advantage of those extra amenities this weekend with the cool temps.

The past few days have been great hiking weather. With alot of tourists in the area this weekend we've had rock climbers, hikers backpacking, campers, family reunions, & a couple of wildlife biologists. People come from all over to see the beautiful area that we live in & to see the Red River Gorge's beauty. The wildlife biologists that I talked to were from Washington. They asked if black bears are common in this area &  I told them no. They said that back home where they live there is Indians who consider the bears sacred & other tribes consider them food. That the bears will wonder off from their homes and into the territory of the Indians. Those that consider them sacred will not kill them but call the wildlife biologists & they will come pick up the bear & transport it back to its habitat. She said that about 5 months out the year they are like a "taxi" & will pick up bears all day & transport them. The stories that she told & the information about the black bears was very interesting. I told her that bears are spotted here in the area every now & then & occasionally our boss will catch them outside of her house on her security cameras. She thought that was very funny! She said in Washington where she lives is the largest population of black bears.

If you are in the area this weekend make sure you go to the Red River Gorge & Natural Bridge or you're missing out! The overlooks at Chimney Top, Princess Arch, & Sky Bridge have been what everyone is talking about this weekend. We've also had alot of campers coming into the gift shop to buy firewood & sweatshirts who are camping near Grey's Arch & said it is beautiful. Take time to relax & take in the beautiful scenery, drive through the Nada Tunnel in the Red River Gorge, or hike up to the Natural Bridge to see the amazing overlook of the park. You never know, you may just see a black bear on your trip!

Our office is open till 8pm this evening & tomorrow we are open till 6pm. You can call us at 606-663-8858 to reserve one of our cozy log cabins or for any information on them. Make sure you like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/5StarCabinRental & follow us on Twitter @fivestarcabins. We hope you have a terrific weekend!

Beautiful Day!

Good Morning!

It's a beautiful day so far! Temperatures are cool but no rain in sight and that makes for a good day here at Natural Bridge & Red River Gorge. I've had several people in and out of the store looking around this morning. A lot of people are in the area with their kids for fall break! It makes for some great memories and fun times here! I've seen several of my friends posting pictures of their trips to Red River Gorge area the last couple of weeks as well. Such a great area to visit!

We've had the best year here at Five Star Cabin Rental! The summer was pretty mild (not too hot is okay with me!) and the fall has treated us just as all. We've had a little more rain than most would like this time of year, but that hasn't stopped our amazing guests, family and friends from coming our way! Our cabins offer hot tubs (some covered for when the nasty weather hits), fireplaces, fire pits, full kitchens, washer/dryer units, pool tables/foosball tables/etc. and TV/satellite so when the weather is not so pleasant, you have a place to go! I hope you consider us in your future plans for your next visit to the Red River Gorge!

We have one more room left available at our Black Bear Lodge Motel for this upcoming weekend, so call soon to book before it's gone! We won't have it long! As October gets close to an end, everyone is trying to get a last minute trip in to see the pretty fall foliage!

As always, we're here everyday at Five Star and we have vacation specialists waiting to take your call. We'll be in office until 7:00 PM this Thursday evening if you have any questions or would like to book a cabin. Be sure to also visit us on the web or on our Facebook page! Or you can send us a quick email if you aren't able to call and have a quick question or comment!

Have a wonderful day!

Making Memories in the Red River Gorge!

It's almost Friday! I'm sure you know what that means? It's just about time to head to your favorite vacation place, Red River Gorge! The scenery is changing (slowly but surely), and it's a breathtaking site! We're still having perfect temperatures too, so if you haven't already made plans to visit the Natural Bridge area yet, I'd make them now!

Every now and then, I'll get asked by a customer, if because I live here, if I feel like I take the Red River Gorge / Natural Bridge area for granted. I never really thought much about it, but now that I have, I must admit that I do. It's such an amazing place to experience and such an incredible view to see. I am often too busy to slow down and take it all in. This year, however, I've taken time out to take that scenic drive down Route 77 through Nada Tunnel, and walked with my daughter to the Suspension Bridge. We made great memories that will last a last time already this season, and I encourage you to do the same. On Suspension Bridge Trail (which is part of the Sheltowee Trace), you walk right beside the Red River on the trail that leads to the bridge. After all the rain that we have gotten the last few days, the river was up and flowing fast. Such a pretty site to see. We also passed next to "Jump Rock" (local name), that is a popular spot in the Gorge.

We talk a lot about the hiking trails here in the area and all of the beauty and wonder it has to offer, but there are plenty of other things to do here in the area also. There's a couple of zip lines in the area to experience a much different view that is absolutely awesome! There are several gift shops in the Natural Bridge area to take home that perfect gift for the special people in your lives or just to find the perfect souvenir to remember your trip by. The Sky Lift will take you up to the Natural Bridge in a breathtaking 22 minute ride. There's Torrent Falls Climbing Adventure for the rock climber in your life, and last but certainly not least, there are some really great local places to eat. There is the Red River Rockhouse, Froggy Bottom Diner, BBQ & Brews, Miguel's Pizza and the Sandstone Arches restaurant in the Natural Bridge State Park Lodge.

If we're not already part of your fall break plans, plan to make even a day trip to the area. We're open everyday here at 5 Star Cabin Rental and would love to meet you and your family! Stop by and say hello! We have plenty to look at in our gift shop from knives, to quilts, to toys for the kids! Don't forget to stop by Wild Things! Of Kentucky also, to get some of the best homemade local fudge around, and say h-h-h-h-e-e-e-e-l-l-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-o to the "Goats on the Roof". Wild Things! also offers gold and gem mining that is fun for the whole family.

Check us out on our website to view our cabins and "like" us on Facebook for specials and more information!

I hope everyone has the best day! We hope to see you soon!

Hiking the Red River Gorge

We are approaching a very busy and exciting Columbus day weekend here at Five Star Cabin Rental located in the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge Area. We haven’t had ideal weather this week however that could be used to your advantage this weekend. With the precipitation we have had the past couple of days the Creation Falls and Kaner Falls should be beautiful for the holiday weekend.

A lot of guest come in our office here at Five Star Cabin Rental and ask us what our favorite trails are in the Red River Gorge. They also ask about what are some of the more strenuous trails and which are easier. We always try to direct them to which trails we think would best for them. We always like to tell everyone about Sky Bridge, Chimney Top, and Gray’s Arch. We also tell them about the Natural Bridge State Park. I would like to introduce you to a few of the other favorite trails in the Red River Gorge.

With this being October and with all the leaves changing I wanted to introduce to one strenuous trail and then one that is easy that both offer breath taking views. The first would be Sheltowee Trace. This trail offers a variety of  “gems” that we have in the Red River Gorge. As you travel along the Sheltowee Trace Trail you will see Indian Arch, towering walls, and beautiful vistas.

Angel Windows is another popular trail in the Red River Gorge that is an easier hiking trail. The trail is only about a half mile and is level for the most part. Just past the arches there is a beautiful canyon that you can see.

October is a very busy month around the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge area. However during the week things slow down just a little. We still have some openings for the month of October. Be sure to check out our website at www.naturalbridgecabinrental.com.  We have a nice variety of cabins and chalets with hot tubs, pool tables, and fireplaces. We will be in the office tonight until 7pm. Also on our website we have an online chat where a vacation specialist is standing by to help you with any questions.

Fall Fun!

It is finally October! We have been staying very busy here at Five Star Cabin Rental taking reservations and  answering questions to help our guest find the best cabin to stay at while they come to The Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park. We always do everything in our power to help you find your perfect mountain getaway.

A popular question we have been getting recently has been about fireplaces. The good news is all of our cabins have a fireplace. The greater part of them are either electric or gas. However our Secluded Serenity Falls, The Cliffs at Hickory Ridge, and Deer Track Falls Country Home all have wood fireplaces. Our Bear Run Chalet has a wood burning stove. To take a look at any of the those cabins and the many others that we offer go to www.naturalbridgecabinrental.com

Another popular feature everyone is looking for is a fire pit. Everyone always loves to sit around a campfire when it starts to get cool out and sing campfire songs, tell ghost stories, and make smores. Luckily the majority of our cabins all have a fire pit area. However with being in the Daniel Boone National Forest and around Natural Bridge State Park you have to be extra careful in the fall time with fires. When the leaves start to get dry they can ignite easier. Always make sure there is no fire ban in place before you decide to roast some marshmallows and hot dogs.

We also have some exciting news from Natural Bridge State Park. On Oct.17-18, 2014 starting at around 7pm and going till 9pm you will be able to ride the sky lift to the top of Natural Bridge and experience that by the moonlight. The cost will be $15 per person. Talk about a fun experience with your whole family or maybe a little romantic trip. Don’t forget your flash light though, it will get dark.

We are still running our special. You can rent two nights between Oct.5-9 and get one night free. Stay must be completed by Oct.9. If you have any questions about our cabins or our special give us a call at 1(606)663-8858.  To view our cabins go to www.naturalbridgecabinrental.com . Also don’t forget to follow us on Twitter @fivestarcabin you can also like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/5StarCabinRental
