Good morning! Its gonna be another beautiful day here in Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. Be a nice day to get out and explore. We still have a few cabins available for this weekend. Some of my personal favorite places to visit in the gorge are sky bridge and princess arch. They aren't very long hikes but they sure are pretty. Then my favorite place to hike in Natural Bridge is the balanced rock trail. Its really neat and you get to see a lot of pretty landscapes. So if you are out and about in the area you should go and check these out. Also if you are in the area stop by and get a coupon book from us. You can save money on the zip line and on food. There is also some coupons in there for our wild things of Kentucky. Who doesn't like homemade fudge. I know i sure do. so stop by the gift shop at wild things and try some.  So stop by and see us. Also dont forget there is a sky lift that will take you up to natural bridge it a nice little ride to the top. If you are planning on coming to the Natural Bridge State Park or the Red River Gorge this weekend the hiking trails are open & it's supposed to be a very nice weekend outside. On Friday it's expected to be sunny with a high temperature of 44 degrees & on Saturday it's expected to be sunny again with a high temperature of 52 degrees. It would be a beautiful time to take a nice hike up to Natural Bridge to see the Natural Arch, Balanced Rock, & other unique rock formations. Or you could go to the Red River Gorge to drive the scenic route on 77 & 715. Along those route's there are many nice over looks such as Sky Bridge, Chimney Top Rock, & other cliff-line views! After a good day's hike & sight seeing head on over to the Natural Bridge State Resort where they will be having a large seafood buffet for the first Friday of the month. With a wide variety of seafood you won't want to miss out on this meal. They will be serving it from 4pm-8pm on Saturday February 7th.

Season in the Red River Gorge

Since I have worked here at Five Star Cabin Rental I have been asked countless times “Are you familiar with the area?” Each time I explain that I was born and raised here in the Red River Gorge and NaturalBridge State Park area. That is always followed by “Can you tell me how to get to (insert trail name here)?” . None ever stop to think about how the different weather conditions may affect the views or the experience of some of the other trails in the Red River Gorge.

The wintertime in the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State park is absolutely beautiful. After we have receive a little bit of snow my favorite places to go are Sky Bridge and Natural Bridge. The high elevation of both places give you the picture perfect view of all the snow covered hills and trees. Sky Bridge is a very easy hike at only .17 mile and takes maybe 30 minutes to walk. For the Natural Bridge you can take the Original Trail. This trail take approximately 45 minutes and it about 1.7 miles

.

Spring will be here before long and we tend to get plenty of rain which is great for the two waterfalls that are located in the Red River Gorge. They are Creation Falls and Kaner Falls. You can get to the Creation falls by taking the Rock Bridge Loop Trail #207. Kaner Falls is a little harder to get to. It is located off the Swift Camp Creek Trail.

In the summer after you have been exploring the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park you should check out Jump Rock. Jump Rock is located off the Sheltowee Trace Suspension Bridge Trail. There you can go to the top of the rock and jump into the water below and swim. It is a nice way to cool down on a hot day. While there you should venture out a little further and experience the Suspension Bridge.

No matter what time of year there is plenty of things to see and do here in the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park area. Busy Weekend at The Red River Gorge

It's been a very busy weekend for us so far here at the Natural Bridge State Park & Red River Gorge. We booked completely for Friday & Saturday! Our guests have been so excited to explore the area & also enjoy their cabins. This weekend is a good time to turn on the cozy fireplaces, build a fire outside in the fire pit, or soak in the hot tub during the chilly evening. They are definitely taking full advantage of those extra amenities this weekend with the cool temps.

The past few days have been great hiking weather. With alot of tourists in the area this weekend we've had rock climbers, hikers backpacking, campers, family reunions, & a couple of wildlife biologists. People come from all over to see the beautiful area that we live in & to see the Red River Gorge's beauty. The wildlife biologists that I talked to were from Washington. They asked if black bears are common in this area &  I told them no. They said that back home where they live there is Indians who consider the bears sacred & other tribes consider them food. That the bears will wonder off from their homes and into the territory of the Indians. Those that consider them sacred will not kill them but call the wildlife biologists & they will come pick up the bear & transport it back to its habitat. She said that about 5 months out the year they are like a "taxi" & will pick up bears all day & transport them. The stories that she told & the information about the black bears was very interesting. I told her that bears are spotted here in the area every now & then & occasionally our boss will catch them outside of her house on her security cameras. She thought that was very funny! She said in Washington where she lives is the largest population of black bears.

If you are in the area this weekend make sure you go to the Red River Gorge & Natural Bridge or you're missing out! The overlooks at Chimney Top, Princess Arch, & Sky Bridge have been what everyone is talking about this weekend. We've also had alot of campers coming into the gift shop to buy firewood & sweatshirts who are camping near Grey's Arch & said it is beautiful. Take time to relax & take in the beautiful scenery, drive through the Nada Tunnel in the Red River Gorge, or hike up to the Natural Bridge to see the amazing overlook of the park. You never know, you may just see a black bear on your trip!

Hiking the Red River Gorge

We are approaching a very busy and exciting Columbus day weekend here at Five Star Cabin Rental located in the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge Area. We haven’t had ideal weather this week however that could be used to your advantage this weekend. With the precipitation we have had the past couple of days the Creation Falls and Kaner Falls should be beautiful for the holiday weekend.

A lot of guest come in our office here at Five Star Cabin Rental and ask us what our favorite trails are in the Red River Gorge. They also ask about what are some of the more strenuous trails and which are easier. We always try to direct them to which trails we think would best for them. We always like to tell everyone about Sky Bridge, Chimney Top, and Gray’s Arch. We also tell them about the Natural Bridge State Park. I would like to introduce you to a few of the other favorite trails in the Red River Gorge.

With this being October and with all the leaves changing I wanted to introduce to one strenuous trail and then one that is easy that both offer breath taking views. The first would be Sheltowee Trace. This trail offers a variety of  “gems” that we have in the Red River Gorge. As you travel along the Sheltowee Trace Trail you will see Indian Arch, towering walls, and beautiful vistas.

Angel Windows is another popular trail in the Red River Gorge that is an easier hiking trail. The trail is only about a half mile and is level for the most part. Just past the arches there is a beautiful canyon that you can see.

October is a very busy month around the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge area. However during the week things slow down just a little. We still have some openings for the month of October. Colors of Fall

        As I was driving down the Mountain Parkway to come to work this morning I noticed that the foliage on the hills around us are already starting to change colors. I know that excites everyone else just as it does us! We love this time of year because so many of our loyal guest come and visit us and we also get to meet many new guest and help them enjoy their vacation and experience the marvel of  Fall  in  the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Park.
We have been booking up for October for a little while now. A lot of you have already figured out there is nothing better than hiking to one of the many look outs the Gorge has to offer like Sky Bridge and Chimney Top and enjoy the magnificent view of the trees in all their beauty. If you are feeling adventurous why not explore a trail you  have never been on and encounter a different area of the Red River Gorge.
Also in October, Hoedown Island that is part of Natural Bridge State Park will still be open for your friends and family to take pleasure in. There you can line dance, waltz,  and learn some clogging. It is always a entertaining event and a good time is had by all.
