Happy Leap Day!

Happy Leap Year Day! It's a tradition (in Ireland and Britain anyway) that on Leap Year Day, the woman may propose marriage by only in a Leap Year! If a marriage proposal was refused by the man, compensation was deemed to be a pair of leather gloves, a single rose, $1, and a kiss. In Greece, it is considered unlucky to marry in a Leap Year and some would actually avoid marriage in that year. The owners of 5 Star, Debbie & Lloyd Little, were actually married this day, 40 years ago! Debbie says it was a premeditated plan by her smart husband to only have to buy her an anniversary gift every 4 years (haha). She says that's okay though, because she married the man of her dreams. Happy Anniversary Debbie & Lloyd!

It means something different to everyone. I was reading about different traditions and thought I'd share some with you!

It is a bit chilly today in the Red River Gorge Geological Area. Winter has finally found us! We're supposed to have some absolutely frigid temperatures in the next few days! Despite the temperatures, there is still a lot to see at Natural Bridge and the Red River Gorge this time of year. You can see the Red River Gorge without even leaving the comfort of your warm car! There is a forty-five to sixty minute driving loop you can use to see all the wonderful sights of the Gorge! You can drive through Nada Tunnel, a man-made tunnel that a train used to go through!

We still have the 'Celebration Promo' running through the months of January and February. All you have to do is call our office and book two nights in a cabin and you can receive a third night for free! Your stay must be consecutive, cannot fall on a holiday weekend or weekday (Valentine's Day or President's Day), and can only be used on new reservations only.

The snow is flying here in the Red River Gorge. You can tell that Christmas is on it's way! It sure is a lovely day here in Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. Would be a wonderful day for a hike. Some of my favorite place to hike are Sky bridge, Chimney Top Rock and Princess Arch. All are pretty short but are worth it. The views are incredible. Also don't forget about Nada Tunnel. Below you will find a picture of the tunnel. Can you believe that trains use to go thru there???

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Today is beautiful! The temperature and blue skies together make for a perfect day. It feels more like Fall today. It's a perfect day to visit The Red and do some hiking. I personally am very excited for fall to arrive. It doesn't get much better than that around here. Campfires, s'mores, hoodies, beautiful scenery... pretty much everything you need to make unforgettable memories with those you love most.

Summer's almost gone...

   

     We were in full swing here at 5 Star Cabin Rentals this past weekend. It has been one of the busiest summers we've seen in awhile at Red River Gorge. The cabins and campgrounds alike have stayed booked up during summer break. We had the pleasure of meeting guests from all over the world, including Germany. That's one of my favorite things about working/living in this area, the wonderful people we meet on a daily basis. The old saying is true, you learn something new everyday!

     Even though summer is coming to an end soon, don't forget about the most loved season, fall! The Red River Gorge & Natural Bridge area are at their peak during October. It sure is a beautiful day here in Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. Not to hot there's a nice breeze blowing. A perfect day for a hike. So what are you waiting for come on down and see us. Summer Time!

It's been so busy here in the Red River Gorge the last couple of weekends! July is our second busiest month of the year, and we love it! It's so exciting to meet all of the new people that come down for their first time and also very exciting to see our return customers.

There is only a week or two left of summer break so be sure to visit your favorite vacation place before time is up! Beautiful and busy weekend!!!

It sure is going to be a beautiful weekend here in Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge! A great time for a nice hike or to sit and relax by the pool at natural bridge state park. Speaking of hiking, I had the luxury of take a hike over the weekend. I did the balanced rock trail at Natural Bridge State Park. It is a beautiful hike that takes you up to the Natural Bridge. You get to see a lot of nice sights. It's not that long of a hike either I want to say roughly a mile.

Also don't forget about our Wild Things of KY gift shop, where you can see a live animal display which includes snakes, turtles, spiders and lots more. Then when you get done going thru that browse our gift shop where we have lots to choose from. Including homemade fudge, t-shirts, jewelry, and lots more. Then we have our goats on a roof. Which I must say is a lot of fun, the little goats are so cute and love love love to eat. So stop by and give them a nice little snack that you can purchase inside the gift shop.

Then once your done doing all that your going to need a place to sit back and relax. That's where we come in. Check out the pictures I posted of a little black bear! They were sent to me just this morning from one of our guests in a cabin. They said "it was quite the wake up call!" These guests made my day with these pictures. Such a beautiful animal! I had heard that we'll be seeing a lot more sightings in the next few years! I think that's so exciting!

Memorial Day Weekend

This is also a very popular place to watch the sunset & sunrise. Keep that in mind when visiting the area!

The Red River Gorge area is popular for the scenic route drive that takes you through the Nada Tunnel on Route 77 around the clifty wilderness and many popular trails. Pick up a map at our gift shop of the Red River Gorge to help you find your way around. We also sell "Hiking the Red" which is a very informative book on the trails in the Red River Gorge and gives you detailed information on each one.

Good evening everyone! We hope you're enjoying this fantastic Friday! It's finally the weekend and we're sure you're as happy about that as we are! There are lots of people out and about enjoying the day! Some of my personal favorite places to visit in the gorge are sky bridge and princess arch. They aren't very long hikes but they sure are pretty. Then my favorite place to hike in Natural Bridge is the balanced rock trail. Its really neat and you get to see a lot of pretty landscapes. So if you are out and about in the area you should go and check these out. Also if you are in the area stop by and get a coupon book from us. You can save money on the zip line and on food. There is also some coupons in there for our wild things of Kentucky. Who doesn't like homemade fudge. I know i sure do. so stop by the gift shop at wild things and try some.  So stop by and see us. Also dont forget there is a sky lift that will take you up to natural bridge it a nice little ride to the top.
